Humes “Tripp” Franklin is a third-generation lawyer representing clients in Family Law, Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, Business Law, and Medical Malpractice cases at Wharton Aldhizer & Weaver. He is admitted to practice law in state and federal courts in Virginia and West Virginia. His significant experience working with individuals, families, and businesses gives him a firm foundation in meeting your legal needs. He offers wise counsel to his clients and develops solutions to get them in a better situation than when they first hired him. Clients know they can depend on Tripp for honest and open communication and to treat each case with the integrity it deserves. Tripp is the Chairman of the Judicial Inquiry and Review Commission (JIRC).  He is also the varsity boy’s cross-country coach at Wilson Memorial High School in addition to the boys and girls middle school coach.

    Tripp has represented a diversity of clients to successful verdicts:

    • Won a favorable verdict defending a products liability claim against a Fortune 100 company in a week-long jury trial in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    • Successfully obtained a verdict granting title to his client by adverse possession of 64 acres of mountainous land in West Virginia in a multi-day jury trial in Pendleton County, West Virginia
    • $4 Million verdict in Alexandria, Virginia, for undiagnosed hydrocephalus resulting in total blindness (The jury awarded $500,000 more than requested.)
    • $3.5 Million verdict for misdiagnosed pulmonary embolism resulting in the death of a 45-year-old mother of two teenagers (This was the largest verdict in Nottoway County, Virginia, history.)
    • $3.5 Million verdict in Staunton, Virginia, for misdiagnosed stroke in the Emergency Room resulting in the death of a 40-year-old mother of two teenagers (This was the largest medical malpractice verdict in Augusta County history.)
    • Successfully defended a will contest case in a two day jury trial in Highland County, Virginia which involved, perhaps, the most unique and interesting facts of any will contest, ever.
