Meet Wil Russell: WAW’s Newest Staunton Attorney

WAW Welcomes New Associate To Law Firm’s Staunton Office

STAUNTON, VA — We are excited to welcome Charles “Wil” Russell as the latest addition to the Wharton Aldhizer & Weaver PLC team in Staunton. Wil is immensely qualified to support our partners and associates in the Civil Litigation practice area.

Mentors & Family Shaped Wil’s Approach To Advocacy

Wil was initially inspired to pursue a law career by his grandfather, the Hon. Charles Stevens Russell Sr., who served as a Justice for the Supreme Court of Virginia for nine years before retiring and later returning as a Senior Justice for another twenty years. Since then, he has met numerous jurists from across the Commonwealth who have inspired him and influenced his approach to practicing law.

“The ability to meaningfully contribute to my community through honest and zealous advocacy is what compels me most about the practice of law. Working together with clients to achieve their legal goals brings me tremendous satisfaction.”

– Wil Russell

Wil’s Broad Experience Benefits Civil Litigation Clients

Wil is a 2024 graduate of the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University. During law school, he worked as a Law Clerk for two different firms in Maryland and Virginia. Then, after graduation, Wil spent a year as a Judicial Law Clerk for two circuit court judges in Staunton and Waynesboro—Hon. Anne F. Reed and Hon. Paul A. Dryer. Through these experiences, Wil honed valuable skills in legal research, legal writing, and litigation strategy, making him a strong asset to our clients needing assistance with personal injury, insurance defense, and much more.

A Background In Hospitality Helps Wil Anticipate Clients’ Needs

In addition to his legal experience, Wil has a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management and spent six years working around the world for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. During this time, Wil gained experience in fast-paced corporate environments—managing budgets, projects, and personnel—all while anticipating guests’ needs. As an attorney, Wil draws from his hospitality career to provide proactive solutions and advocacy services for clients.

A Staunton Attorney Who Serves Clients With A Collaborative Approach

Wil’s direct yet considerate communication style, problem-solving mindset, and collaborative approach help him get to the heart of legal issues while keeping real-world challenges in view.

“My professional and personal experiences help provide me with perspective and insight into the real-world problems clients face, beyond the legal issues, so that the legal advice I provide accounts for the practical aspects of life.”

– Wil Russell

As Wil Russell is settling into the Wharton Aldhizer & Weaver PLC Staunton office, he looks forward to building strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and the community.
